In the News

Major progress has been made in the gastrointestinal (GI) therapeutic areas of gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, and chronic liver disease. However, significant unmet medical needs remain for many major GI disorders. Ventrus Biosciences is positioned to address three of the top 10 GI disorders in the United States: anal fissure, fecal incontinence, and hemorrhoids. The combined patient population of these three disorders exceeds 26 million adults. In the market segments of fecal incontinence and anal fissure, the FDA has never approved a pharmaceutical treatment. In the market segment of hemorrhoids, the FDA has not approved a new pharmaceutical treatment within the last 35 years.
